![]() ![]() They tend to fall into 2 groups: endless running speedtests to random servers or don't have fast enough hardware devices to utilize Fiber 1000. I tend to ignore general slow speed comments from most customers. ![]() How does your drop enter your home?ĭo you have a Slack NID or just direct bury Fiber running up the wall and poked through a hole in the wall with Gel or caulking? If you are the only local customer with this issue at 11 PM then it is your hardware (ONT, Gateway or Fiber drop). Or if you can't get the dumb switch to work.įiber is run underground, neighbors with the same service aren’t complaining about the 11pm issue but frequently mention slow speeds with their fiber service as well so I’m guessing it’s oversold in this area. Note: Again bypassing of any types don't work at this time where the AT&T infrastructure has been upgraded to XGS-PON technology and there is no way for you to know unless a tech tells you that your Fiber line is on an XGS-PON Splitter in the local PFP. Note: AT&T does not support this dumb switch bypass configuration so we need the basic connection to be working solidly and not restarting at 11 PM every night. The AT&T Gateway provide the 802.1x authentication and your router does the rest. A good weekend project if you don't have plans for this weekend.īasically your BGW210-700 shares an Ethernet switch with your third-party router of choice. It is a relative easy test to see if you can get the dumb switch bypass to work. Neither one can do a full bypass but either would work using what is know as a dumb switch bypass.ĭo you have a Gigabit network switch that is not smart or managed? OK while we wait for 11 PM let's talk about your 2 third-party routers. Note: Not all areas still allow bypassing the AT&T Gateway if the infrastructure has been upgraded to XGS-PON. Next up is to restart your Gateway at a different time of day and see if it behaves like your 11 PM issue but 24 hours from when you restart the Gateway.įor some background do you have underground Fiber or overhead service? It might be a damaged Fiber drop that needs to be replaced. We need to know what the ONT's lights show now and when 11 PM rolls around. It may be right by your Gateway or in another room or network panel. First you need to find your ONT (small white box) that is not the black BGW210-700. I will start with the 11 PM issue for now. What alternate Gateway do you have or do you really mean a third party router? Up first is fixing the 11 PM issue or how to bypass the AT&T Gateway if you have the proper hardware and the technical skills. Well which issue would you like to address first or do you just really want a reason to go back to Spectrum? You are the customer and get to make the decision that is right for you. I’d love to use my own gateway that I KNOW works correctly but too bad, AT&T doesn’t know how basic networking works so they lock down the fiber box to have to use their gateway. Seems like a lot of people on the forums here and elsewhere experience the same issue, so it’s definitely not just me.Ĭoming from a place that had fiber that never went down or ever had any hiccups to AT&T has been a nightmare since I work from home and between this and other random upstream issues throughout the day I’m considering switching back to Spectrum of all things because of this poor service. I’ve been in the settings, did a factory reset, there’s no “power savings” feature in the settings and it’s plugged directly into the wall.Īnyway, everything goes out at 11pm every night for me on the dot for about a minute, lights on the gateway stay on, nothing reboots, and then speeds are crap for the next while, down to like single and double digit mbps on Ethernet and WiFi, and it eventually comes back to full strength. Same model as the OP, BGW210-700, called support multiple times and nobody over there even understands what I’m talking about and just says there’s no issue. Yep I have fiber service and I’d hope the gateway is brand new since I just moved in with new service back in April. ![]()
